Have you found a sick, injured or orphaned animal? AKR operates a 24/7 Hotline providing information and advice for a range of animals in need of rescue or other assistance. While established in 2018 as a koala rescue service, AKR quickly realised the need to provide a service for a range of wildlife in need of help and expanded its objectives to provide services for any animal in need. This need was highlighted during the Cudlee Creek Bushfire when AKR was called upon to help not only koalas but kangaroos, possums and even livestock. AKR receives hundreds of calls for help each year from members of public, wildlife carer groups, emergency services, government and non-government agencies needing our services to assist not only koalas but a wide range of animals. At AKR we believe that no animal should suffer and we will always endeavour to help any animal in need.
In December 2019, the Adelaide Hills bushfires created the need to establish an Emergency Triage Centre to cater for the influx of burnt, displaced and orphaned koalas. This period was also very hot and dry so koalas suffering from heat and dehydration also strained our infrastructure.
